MyOhioWellness, an innovative initiative dedicated to enhancing mental health support for Ohio’s young adults, is advancing its mission with the introduction of artificial intelligence. This initiative, developed in collaboration with the School-Based Center of Excellence for Prevention and Early Intervention at Miami University, aims to address the pressing mental health needs of youth and young adults across the state.
Mental health concerns are common, with 1 in 5 individuals facing such difficulties. In Ohio alone, approximately 2 million people grapple with mental health conditions, a number four times the population of Cleveland. Despite the prevalence, over 50% of people do not receive the help they need (NAMI Ohio, 2023). MyOhioWellness seeks to bridge this gap by providing reliable and accessible information and resources through its streaming platform.
MyOhioWellness.com, a free streaming platform designed for 18-24 year olds, provides high-quality mental health information based on the 8 Dimensions of Wellness, including social, financial, health, and occupational categories, which can be common areas of stress for youth and young adults. MyOhioWellness offers customizable, research-backed articles covering these dimensions, directly impacting young people. Each dimension—occupational, financial, environmental, social, spiritual, emotional, physical, and intellectual—addresses different aspects of a young person’s life, from balancing academic and non-academic responsibilities to managing finances and finding a sense of purpose.
During its initial phase, MyOhioWellness reached over 103,000 individuals aged 18 to 24, achieving a 60% engagement rate in just six weeks. The campaign garnered 1,868,020 impressions and 1,031,212 views, highlighting its significant impact.
In its second phase, MyOhioWellness will introduce an AI Health Coach feature, developed in partnership with CampusWell. This advanced Health Coach is pre-loaded with research-informed answers and local resource information, offering personalized, real-time support and daily wellness tips. The AI Health Coach provides an immediate first step to resources and reliable access to mental health and well-being information.
MyOhioWellness is committed to meeting young people where they are, whether it’s through their digital habits, at work, or in school. By enhancing accessibility to mental health resources, MyOhioWellness is poised to make a substantial impact on improving mental health outcomes and fostering a healthier future for Ohio’s young adults.
